Best Shopify SEO apps 2026: 8 verified and ranked

Best Shopify SEO apps 2026: 8 verified and ranked

Short answer: the best Shopify SEO app in 2026 for most stores is Booster AI SEO, which scans the store and fixes meta tags, alt text, broken links and structured data without you touching a template. 4.9 stars across 5,235 reviews, free plan available, $39/month for the tier that automates meta tags.

Craftshift builds Shopify apps and not one of them is an SEO app, so the table below is not us ranking ourselves. One of ours shows up later for a reason: Rubik Combined Listings groups separate colour products into one listing, which removes indexable URLs from a catalogue. That is an SEO tradeoff, not an SEO win, and we say so in full further down. It stays out of the ranking because it does not belong there. It holds 5.0 stars across 63 reviews, carries the Built for Shopify badge, and is free for five product groups.

Now the part that decides this purchase. Every app here writes meta tags, compresses images, generates schema and finds broken links. That fight ended years ago. What separates them in 2026 is where the free plan ceiling sits, whether pricing counts products, images or usage, and which of them treats answer engine optimisation as a feature rather than a bullet point.

Every figure below was read off the listing in July 2026. They move. The order is by review volume, largest first, because that is the one signal we can show you rather than assert.

In this guide

What a Shopify SEO app actually does

A Shopify SEO app automates the repetitive on-page work: title tags and meta descriptions in bulk, image alt text and filenames, compression, JSON-LD structured data, sitemaps, broken link detection and 301 redirects. It does not write your content, earn you links, or pick your catalogue structure. Those three decide rankings.

Worth saying plainly, because these listings do not: an SEO app is a maintenance tool. Valuable at 800 products. Mostly pointless at 20, where an afternoon with our free SEO checker and a spreadsheet does the same job. Where does your catalogue sit?

Two guides sit next to this one: the Shopify SEO checklist for 2026 covers what to fix in what order, how to check your store SEO walks the audit, and product page SEO covers the pages themselves.

Booster AI SEO + AEO Optimizer: best overall

Booster is the largest app in this category by review volume: 4.9 stars across 5,235 reviews, with the Built for Shopify badge. The pitch is continuous automation. It scans the store, flags issues and applies fixes on a schedule rather than waiting for you to open the dashboard. Free gives an SEO score, alt text templates, broken link detection and a weekly sync of 50 images. Pro at $39/month ($349/year) adds meta tag optimisation, custom templates, autopilot fixes, rich snippets and automated sitemap submission.

Honest limitation: bulk meta tag optimisation, the thing most merchants install an SEO app to get, is not on the free plan, and $39 is the joint highest entry price here. Image compression, URL keyword optimisation and 365 days of Search Console history wait for Premium at $69.

Avada AI SEO Image Optimizer: SEO and speed together

Avada runs 4.9 across 4,327 reviews with the Built for Shopify badge, and it takes page speed most seriously alongside the SEO work. Free covers 100 image optimizations, a basic speed booster, HTML sitemap, meta tags, 20 on-page audits and 100 AI credits. Pro at $34.95/month ($348/year) makes image optimisation unlimited and adds unlimited audits, 1,000 AI credits, a broken link manager, XML sitemap generation and a robots.txt editor.

Honest limitation: 100 free images is under one per product for a 300-product store, so the free tier is a trial. The step from $34.95 to the $99 Enterprise plan buys consulting time and AI credits, not a different feature set. Check your image weight with our free image audit first.

SearchPie: SEO, Speed & Schema: the widest schema coverage

SearchPie holds 4.9 across 2,329 reviews with the Built for Shopify badge. Its free Starter tier is unusually complete: daily SEO score, 50 compressed images, store and breadcrumb schema, sitemap, bulk meta tags and alt text with templates, 50 AI-generated SEO tags, and 404 detection. Premium at $39/month ($374.40/year) raises compression to 500 images and adds lazy loading, product price, rating and FAQ schema, plus automatic 404 fixes.

Honest limitation: the AEO features, meaning AI search optimisation and an LLM.txt file, sit on the $99 Enterprise tier. That is a lot for something Webrex starts giving away at $9.99. If answer engines are why you are shopping, read that row again.

Tiny SEO Speed Image Optimizer: pay for what you use

TinySEO sits at 5.0 across 2,233 reviews with the Built for Shopify badge, the highest rating at that review volume in the category. Its pricing is the outlier and the reason to pick it: free to install, 50 image optimizations a month, then 3 cents per extra image. Beginner at $14/month includes 1,500 optimizations and drops the overage to 2 cents. Advanced at $23 adds IndexNow instant indexing, 404 redirects, automatic AI metadata, and llms.txt plus agents.md editing.

Honest limitation: usage pricing cuts both ways, and a store with 400 products and three photos each pays real money on the pay-as-you-go tier. Fix filenames before compressing anything, otherwise you are paying to optimise files called IMG_4471. Our guide to image filenames and SEO covers the naming side.

SEOWILL: AI SEO & AI Blog Post: content generation attached

SEOWILL, listed as formerly SEOAnt, is 4.9 across 1,713 reviews with the Built for Shopify badge. It covers the usual technical ground and bolts on AI blog generation. Free gives a site audit, alt text editing, 50 image compressions, 30 AI blog credits, keyword research and a broken link scanner. Pro at $29.99/month ($287.90/year) raises compression to 2,000 images and blog credits to 200, and adds bulk meta tags, JSON-LD and automatic redirects.

Honest limitation: the rank tracker and competitive analysis, the two features that tell you whether any of this worked, wait for Premium at $59.99. Every tier also advertises a backlink exchange quota. Our opinion, and only that: exchanged links are the weakest thing on this page.

Sherpas: Smart SEO: cheapest genuine paid tier

Smart SEO from Sherpas runs 4.9 across 847 reviews with the Built for Shopify badge, and it is the most quietly practical app here. Free covers broken link checks on 100 pages, 50 images, 20 AI generations, meta tags, alt tags, sitemap and an audit of 20 pages. Pro at $14.99/month ($149.90/year) adds page speed work, JSON-LD, bulk meta and alt tag optimisation and bulk image optimisation. Cheapest tier here that does bulk work at all.

Honest limitation: every feature is metered per tier, though the quotas are printed on the listing so you can do the arithmetic first. The AI bulk tools start on Business at $24.99, and unlimited AI generation needs Premium at $49.99 plus your own API key.

Webrex: Schema, AEO, AI SEO: best free plan on this page

Webrex is 4.9 across 797 reviews with the Built for Shopify badge, and its free tier is the most generous thing in this roundup: unlimited product schema, variant-level markup covering size, colour and options, local business, organization, breadcrumb, article and blog schema, all auto-syncing when products change. Growth at $9.99/month ($83.88/year) pulls review schema from Judge.me, Loox and 35 other review apps, adds AI-optimised FAQ schema, merchant listing shipping and return data, and a schema coverage audit.

Honest limitation: this is not a full SEO app and does not pretend to be. No image compression, no speed work, no bulk meta tag editor. You are buying structured data and nothing else, so for most stores it is a second app rather than the app. Our free JSON-LD schema generator shows you what your markup looks like now.

StoreSEO SEO & Image Optimizer: fine until your catalogue grows

StoreSEO is 5.0 across 668 reviews with the Built for Shopify badge. Free Forever optimises 25 products, gives 200 AI credits and 25 images, tracks 5 keywords, generates an LLMs.txt file and edits agents.md. Lite at $14.99 raises the ceiling to 100 products and adds one-click schema, instant indexing requests, Search Console connections, automatic sitemap submission and 500 images.

Honest limitation: pricing counts products and the caps are the tightest here. 25 free, 100 at $14.99, 250 at $39.99, then a jump to 10,000 at $249.99 with nothing between. Multilingual SEO also sits only on that $249.99 plan. A 600-product store has no sensible rung on that ladder.

The SEO decision no SEO app makes for you

Here is where our own work is relevant, so read this section with that in mind. Shopify hands every apparel and homeware store the same fork in the road. One product with a colour option, or twelve products, one per colour. Twelve products means twelve indexable URLs and twelve pages that are 90% identical fighting for the same query. One product means one strong URL and a variant picker.

Neither answer is universally right. Separate colour URLs can win long-tail searches a single product page never ranks for. They also split link equity and produce the near-duplicate mess covered in sibling product cannibalisation. No app here makes that call for you. Pressure-test yours with the free separate products vs variants tool or the longer decision guide.

Rubik Combined Listings, built by Craftshift, links separate colour products into one listing with swatches, so shoppers move between them without leaving the page. It holds 5.0 stars across 63 reviews and is free to install for up to 5 groups. If you merge, redirect the URLs you retire. That part is on you, not on the app.

Rubik Combined Listings grouping separate products as variants with swatches

We will not pretend merging is a pure SEO win, because it is not. You trade URL count for consolidated equity and a better product page, and whether that pays depends on what those colour pages actually earn. A Search Console question, not an opinion. Longer write-up at combined listings and SEO, plus the demo store and the getting started guide.

The other place variant setup touches SEO is images. Google Shopping feeds and image search both pull the image attached to the variant, so a store where every colour shows the same photo feeds one picture into twelve listings. Alt text is the rest of it: alt text best practices covers that, and variant URL structure covers the query strings.

How to choose in about a minute

Skip the feature grids. Three questions decide it:

  1. How many products? Under 100, Sherpas or StoreSEO at $14.99 covers you. Over 1,000, ignore anything priced per product and look at Booster or Avada, which meter images and AI credits instead.
  2. Is the real problem speed? Avada or TinySEO, and treat the meta tag features as a bonus. Compressing images is the only item here that reliably moves a Core Web Vitals score.
  3. Already have meta tags and just want rich results? Webrex, free. You do not need a suite.

One opinion, stated plainly. Most stores overbuy here. A $39 monthly suite on a catalogue with thin descriptions and no links pointing at it is money set on fire. Fix the titles with our free meta tag checker, fix the structure, then automate the maintenance. In that order.

FAQ

Which Shopify SEO app should I use in 2026?

Booster AI SEO for most stores: 4.9 stars, 5,235 reviews, free plan, $39/month for automated meta tags and rich snippets. Webrex at $0 if all you need is structured data. If your actual problem is a dozen near-identical colour URLs competing with each other, no SEO app fixes that, and Rubik Combined Listings (5.0 stars, 63 reviews, built by Craftshift) groups them into one listing with swatches instead. That is a catalogue decision, not an SEO app.

Is there a genuinely free Shopify SEO app?

Webrex is the closest: unlimited product and variant schema free, with no product cap. Everything else free is metered. Avada gives 100 images, SearchPie and Sherpas 50 each, StoreSEO 25 products, Booster a weekly 50-image sync. Fine for a 30-product store, a rounding error at 1,000.

Does a Shopify store need an SEO app at all?

No. Shopify generates sitemaps, canonical tags and clean URLs on its own, and every title tag and meta description is editable in the admin for free. An SEO app buys bulk editing, automation and schema Shopify does not generate. At 20 products that is a luxury. At 800 it is a working day a month back.

Will splitting colours into separate products help my rankings?

Sometimes, and it costs you elsewhere. Separate colour products create indexable URLs that can rank for colour-specific long-tail queries. They also duplicate most of the content, split internal links and multiply what you maintain. Pull the impressions those URLs actually earn in Search Console first. Data beats theory here.

What is AEO and do these apps really do it?

Answer engine optimisation means being quotable by ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, not only ranking in blue links. In practice: structured data, FAQ markup, clean factual copy, an llms.txt file. Webrex, TinySEO and StoreSEO ship llms.txt or AI-optimised FAQ schema. SearchPie puts AEO on its $99 tier. Everyone else is mostly using the acronym.

Buy the SEO app that matches your catalogue size and your real bottleneck. If what holds you back is twelve colour pages competing for one query, that is a different tool entirely.
