Best Shopify currency converter apps 2026: 8 verified and ranked

Short answer: the most reviewed Shopify currency converter in 2026 is BUCKS Currency Converter PRO++, which converts prices into 160+ currencies by geolocation and carries local currency checkout support. 4.9 stars across 1,130 reviews, a free plan with no expiry, $9.99 a month for custom rates and price formatting.

Craftshift builds Shopify apps and none of them converts currency. Ours handle variant images and product grouping, so there is nothing of ours in the ranking or the table below, and we are not going to invent a connection to get one in there. Where a competitor is the better pick in this category, every competitor is, because we do not compete in it at all.

Now the part that decides this purchase, and it is not the currency count. Every app here converts prices by IP location and every one of them supports more currencies than you will ever switch on. What separates them is what happens at checkout. The widget rewrites the number a shopper reads on the product page. The charge is settled by Shopify Payments in whatever currency your store and markets are configured to take, which is why several listings here advertise a “checkout currency notification” as a feature. That notification exists because the conversion is a display layer.

So the real question is not which app has 222 currencies instead of 160. It is whether the price a shopper sees on the product page is the price their card gets charged, and if it is not, whether the app tells them before the last step or after. Four of the eight apps below cost nothing at all. That is worth knowing before anyone quotes you $29 a month.

Every rating, review count and price below was read off the App Store listing in August 2026. The order is by review volume, largest first, because that is the one ranking signal we can show you rather than assert.

In this guide

What a currency converter app actually does

It reads the visitor’s country from their IP address, pulls a live exchange rate, and rewrites every price on the storefront into that country’s currency. Most of them also drop a switcher into your header so a shopper can override the guess. Prices, cart totals, shipping estimates, discounts: all of it repainted client side, usually with rounding rules so nobody sees 47.83 kr.

What it does not do is take the money. Beast Currency Converter says it plainly in its own listing: Shopify does not allow developers to convert prices on the checkout page, so the app instead shows a message on the cart page or on hover explaining what the shopper will actually be billed. That is an honest workaround for a platform limit, and it is the single most useful sentence on any listing in this category.

If you want the customer charged in their own currency for real, that is Shopify Payments and markets, not a widget. Several apps here integrate with it (BUCKS, Hoppy and CVC all advertise local currency checkout, MLV lists Shopify Payments multi-currency checkout on its free plan). The rest are a display layer, which is fine, as long as you know that is what you bought. Before you pay for any of it, run your international pricing through our free Shopify fee calculator, because payment processing on a cross-border order is not the same number as a domestic one.

BUCKS Currency Converter PRO++: best overall

BUCKS, from HUE (a Helixo company), is the biggest app in this category by review volume: 4.9 across 1,130 reviews with the Built for Shopify badge. The free plan is genuinely usable and does not expire: unlimited currencies, auto switching by location, switcher styling, the checkout currency notification and the option to hide the converter. Plus at $9.99 adds your own conversion rates, price formatting, custom positioning and third party app support. Pro at $19.99 adds AI revenue insights showing top countries and currencies, plus 24/7 priority support, and bills at $95.90 a year if you commit.

Honest limitation: the thing most merchants actually want from the paid tier, setting your own conversion rate so you are not shipping to Norway at the mid-market rate, is a paid feature. Reasonable, but it means the free plan quietly hands your margin to the exchange rate feed. Work out what that costs you in our free profit margin calculator before you decide the free tier is enough.

Beast Currency Converter: the most honest listing in the category

Beast, from Grizzly Apps, sits at 4.6 across 1,055 reviews with the Built for Shopify badge. It installs itself into the header of any theme without you touching a file, adds every currency with one button, and switches automatically by location or manually from the switcher. The free plan covers 5 currencies and 3 designs. Elite at $9.95 opens 160+ currencies, auto switching by customer location and the checkout notification, with a 30 day trial, which is the longest trial here by a distance.

Honest limitation: 4.6 is the lowest rating on this page. Five currencies on the free plan is also the tightest free ceiling here, and if you sell into the EU, the UK and North America you are already at three before you have thought about it. Credit where it is due though: this is the listing that tells you Shopify will not let an app convert the checkout, and nobody else says it out loud.

MLV Auto Currency Switcher: the oldest hand here

MLVeda’s switcher runs 4.8 across 938 reviews. The free Hobbyist plan is unusually generous: a theme integrated selector, 200+ ISO currencies, free customisation of the switcher and country flags in rounded or rectangular styles, plus Shopify Payments multi-currency checkout. Super Success at $9.95 a month, or $95.88 a year for a 20% saving, adds IP based country detection, rounded prices and currency recommendations, with a 15 day trial.

Honest limitation: this is the only app in the ranking without the Built for Shopify badge, and the split between the tiers is unusual. IP based country detection, the feature every other app puts on its free plan, is the paid upgrade here. So the free plan gives you a manual selector and 200 currencies but will not guess the visitor’s country for them.

Nova: Multi Currency Converter: free, and that is the whole pitch

Nova Apps ships a floating currency bar that converts automatically by location, rounds prices by the decimal, covers 130+ currencies and pulls rates from Shopify’s own conversion systems and API. Colours and design are editable to match your theme, and support is 24/7 live chat. It is 4.9 across 733 reviews with the Built for Shopify badge. Price: free. Not free plan available, not free to install with usage charges. Free.

Honest limitation: 130+ currencies is the smallest catalogue here, there is no paid tier to escalate to if you outgrow it, and the ratings breakdown shows 2% of reviews at one star (13 of them) against 93% at five. A free app with no revenue attached is a free app whose roadmap depends on somebody’s goodwill. That is not a criticism, it is a fact about incentives, and it applies to every free app on this page.

Selecty: best if the problem is bigger than currency

DevIT’s Selecty is the highest rated app here, 5.0 across 297 reviews with the Built for Shopify badge, and it is not really a currency converter. It is a selector and geolocation layer for Shopify Markets and Global-e: currency, language and country selectors, geolocation redirects by IP, automatic redirects by browser language, market recommendation popups and multiple expansion stores connected together. The free plan carries unlimited selectors and unlimited page views. Professional is $11.99 a month, Premium $21.99, both cheaper annually.

Honest limitation: if all you want is a currency switcher, this is the wrong shape of tool and the wrong price. It earns its place because it works alongside the translation apps rather than against them (the listing names Langify, T Lab, Transcy, Translate and Adapt and Weglot), which matters if you are doing currency and language at the same time. More on that side of it in our geolocation app roundup.

Currency Converter Plus: the most currencies, no free plan

Code Black Belt’s app is 4.7 across 193 reviews with the Built for Shopify badge, and it is the only one here with no free tier at all: $9.99 a month, or $99.90 a year for a 17% saving, after a 14 day trial. What you get for it is depth. 222 currencies including cryptocurrencies and precious metals, exchange rates refreshed every minute rather than daily, IP geolocation from maintained commercial databases, and configurable rounding, styles and menu placement. Its admin is available in ten languages, which almost nothing else here bothers with.

Honest limitation: 193 reviews is a fifth of the sample BUCKS has, and you are paying $9.99 for what three apps on this page give away. Rates every minute matters if you sell high value items into volatile currencies. On a $30 t-shirt it is engineering nobody will notice.

CVC Multi Currency Converter: currency and translation in one free app

Convercy’s app is 4.5 across 123 reviews with the Built for Shopify badge, and it is free. It does currency conversion by IP geolocation, then also auto translates the store into multiple languages, with a glossary so your brand and product terms survive machine translation intact. It converts prices, shipping fees and discounts, and it integrates with Shopify Payments for the checkout side.

Honest limitation: 4.5 across 123 reviews is the smallest evidence base of any app here except Hoppy. Two jobs in one free app is either excellent value or a warning, depending on how much of your traffic is non-English. If translation is the actual priority, compare it properly against the dedicated tools in our Shopify translation app roundup first.

Hoppy Multi Currency Converter: the newcomer

Hoppy Apps runs 4.8 across 87 reviews with the Built for Shopify badge, and it is free. Automatic conversion into 160+ currencies by geolocation, full Shopify Markets support for the checkout, and a loader designed not to flash the wrong price at people while it works. If you have ever watched a product page repaint from dollars to euros half a second after it loads, you know exactly why that is on the feature list.

Honest limitation: 87 reviews is the smallest sample in this ranking, by a factor of twelve against the leader. Nothing on the listing looks wrong. There is just not much history to read yet, and a currency converter is a piece of software that touches every price on your store, so history is worth something.

What a currency app will not fix

We build in a different corner of the App Store, so read this as an outsider’s note rather than a pitch. Showing a price in kroner does not make an international shopper buy. It removes one friction point out of several, and the others usually sit on the product page: shipping cost revealed at checkout, delivery estimates that assume domestic post, and photos that do not match the option the shopper picked.

That last one is our corner, and it is the only claim we will make on this page. Rubik Variant Images filters a product gallery down to the images for the variant a shopper selected, so what is on screen matches what ships. 5.0 stars across 420 reviews, free to install for one product. It is not a currency app, it is not in the table above, and it does not belong there. Different problem, same shopper, earlier in the same visit.

Rubik Variant Images showing only the images that belong to the selected variant

The wider point holds whatever you sell. International conversion is a chain, and currency is one link. There is data on another link, the product card itself, in whether product card swatches move conversion, and on the collection page side in collection swatches and conversion rate.

How to choose in about a minute

Skip the currency counts. Three questions settle it:

  1. Are you on Shopify Payments with markets set up? If yes, pick an app that names local currency checkout on the listing: BUCKS, Hoppy or CVC. If no, you are buying a display layer, so buy a free one and spend the money elsewhere.
  2. Do you need to set your own rate? Selling into a volatile currency at the mid-market rate is how margin quietly disappears. Custom rates are a paid feature on BUCKS and are the main reason to pay anyone here.
  3. Is language part of this project? Then look at Selecty or CVC, or split the job properly with a dedicated translation app. Doing currency now and language in six months means two rounds of theme testing.

One opinion, stated plainly, and it will annoy people. Most stores install a currency converter far too early. It is a visible, satisfying, cheap change that feels like international expansion, and it does approximately nothing if your shipping page still says “contact us for rates outside the UK”. Fix the shipping story first. The converter takes ten minutes whenever you are ready for it.

FAQ

Which currency converter app should I use on Shopify?

For most stores, BUCKS Currency Converter PRO++ (4.9 stars, 1,130 reviews) because it has the largest review base, a free plan that does not expire and local currency checkout support. If you refuse to pay anything, Nova: Multi Currency Converter is 4.9 across 733 reviews and entirely free. If you want your own exchange rate rather than the market one, that is a paid tier on BUCKS at $9.99 a month.

Does a currency converter app change what the customer is charged?

Usually not by itself. Beast Currency Converter’s listing states that Shopify does not let developers convert prices on the checkout page, which is why apps show a cart message or hover note explaining the billing currency. Charging in the shopper’s own currency is a Shopify Payments and markets configuration. Apps that advertise local currency checkout, such as BUCKS, Hoppy and CVC, are integrating with that rather than replacing it.

Is there a genuinely free Shopify currency converter?

Three of the eight are free outright with no paid tier: Nova: Multi Currency Converter (4.9, 733 reviews), CVC Multi Currency Converter (4.5, 123) and Hoppy Multi Currency Converter (4.8, 87). Four more have a free plan with paid upgrades. Only Currency Converter Plus has no free option, at $9.99 a month after a 14 day trial.

Do I need a currency app if I use Shopify Markets?

Often not for the conversion itself, since markets handles pricing and Shopify Payments handles the charge. What merchants still add an app for is the storefront switcher, the country and language selectors and the geolocation prompt, which is exactly Selecty’s territory at 5.0 stars across 297 reviews. Check what your theme already renders before paying for a second copy of it.

Will a currency converter slow my store down?

Any app that rewrites every price on the page does work in the browser, and the visible symptom is the flicker where prices repaint after load. Several listings here sell against that specifically: BUCKS advertises no flicker with an instant loader, and Hoppy names its loader as a feature. Test it on a real product page, on a phone, on your worst connection. Our free store analyzer is a reasonable place to start.

How many currencies do I actually need?

Look at your analytics, not at the feature list. Most stores get meaningful traffic from four to six countries and the rest is noise. An app offering 222 currencies and one offering 130 are identical to you if your traffic is the US, the UK, Germany, Canada and Australia. The number that matters is the free plan ceiling: Beast caps its free tier at five currencies, which is exactly the point at which this stops being a theoretical question.

The number nobody checks first

A closing thought that is not about currency apps. Before you convert a single price, look at how many of your international sessions reach a product page and then leave without adding anything. If that number is bad, the currency was not the problem, because those people never got as far as caring what the price was denominated in.

Then pick the cheapest app on this page that names local currency checkout and get on with something else. Currency is a ten minute job pretending to be a strategy. If your catalogue runs heavy on colours and options, the ten minutes are better spent on the apps that handle product variants, where the shopper is actually deciding.
