Find out which Shopify theme any store is running. Paste a store URL and this detector reads the theme details Shopify prints into every storefront's page source, then matches the Theme Store ID against our list of 271 verified Theme Store themes to show the theme's real name, developer, price, rating and a link to its Theme Store page.
Every ID in that list was checked against live stores: we read the ID from real storefronts running each theme and only keep it when the theme's own code agrees on the name. So a result here is the theme a store actually installed, not a guess from its admin label.
What the result shows
| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
| Theme | The Theme Store theme matching the store's Theme Store ID, from our verified list |
| Theme Store ID | The number Shopify stamps on a theme installed from the Theme Store. It stays the same whatever the store renames the theme to. |
| Developer, price and rating | As listed on the theme's Theme Store page |
| Installed version | The version the store is running, from the theme's own code |
| Newer version we've seen | Shown only when another live store we checked runs a higher version than this one. It is not an official release feed, so the absence of this line doesn't prove the store is up to date. |
| Name in the store's admin | Whatever the store owner called their copy of the theme. Often something like "Live theme" or a date. |
How to find a Shopify theme store ID yourself
Open the store in a browser, view the page source (Ctrl+U or Cmd+Option+U), and search for theme_store_id. You'll find a line like this:
Shopify.theme = {"name":"Live theme","id":123456789,"schema_name":"Dawn","schema_version":"15.0.0","theme_store_id":887,"role":"main"}
The theme_store_id is the Theme Store ID: 887 is Dawn on every store that installed Dawn from the Theme Store. The id is a different number, unique to that one store's copy of the theme. The name is the admin label, which the owner can change at any time, and schema_name and schema_version come from the theme's own code.
If theme_store_id is null, the theme wasn't installed from the Theme Store. That usually means a custom theme, a theme bought elsewhere, or a copy uploaded as a file. The schema_name is then the best clue to what it's based on.

How does the Shopify theme detector work?
It fetches the store's public homepage and reads the Shopify.theme object that Shopify prints into every storefront's page source. That object holds the Theme Store ID, which the tool matches against our list of Theme Store themes whose IDs we verified on live stores. No login or API access is needed.
What is a Shopify theme store ID?
It's the number Shopify attaches to a theme installed from the Shopify Theme Store. Every store that installed the same theme carries the same number, for example 887 for Dawn, and renaming the theme in the admin doesn't change it. It isn't shown in the Theme Store's web addresses, which use the theme's name.
Why does a store show no theme store ID?
A theme_store_id of null means the theme wasn't installed from the Theme Store. It may be a custom theme, one bought from another marketplace, or a Theme Store theme uploaded as a file. Check the schema name in the result for a clue to what it's built on.
Can a store hide which theme it uses?
Not easily on a normal Shopify storefront, because Shopify prints the theme details itself. Password-protected stores can't be checked, and headless stores built on a custom frontend don't use a Shopify theme at all, so there is nothing to detect.
Why does the theme name in the result differ from the admin name?
The admin name is a label the store owner can change, so it's often something like "Live theme" or a date. The theme itself is identified by the Theme Store ID, and the schema name comes from the theme's own code.
How do I find my own theme store ID?
Enter your own store's address in this tool, or open your storefront, view the page source and search for theme_store_id. The number in your theme editor's web address is your store's own theme ID, which is a different number.
