Shopify AI Visibility Grader

An AI visibility score is a number from 0 to 100 that says how ready one Shopify product is to be found and recommended by AI shopping assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot and Perplexity. Paste a product page URL below to get it in about 15 seconds. It is free, needs no login and works on any public Shopify store.

What is a Shopify AI visibility score?

Shoppers now ask an assistant what to buy instead of typing keywords into a search box. The assistant answers with a short list of products, and it can only pick from products it can find and understand. The AI visibility score measures exactly that for one product: whether an assistant can reach it at all, and how well the listing answers the questions an assistant has to answer before it recommends something.

It is not an SEO score. A page can rank well on Google and still be close to invisible to an assistant, because the two read different things. Google ranks pages. An assistant picks products, and it reads them from product data far more than from page design.

How the AI visibility grader works

The grader reads the product the way an AI shopping assistant does, from public data only. First it asks Shopify's own catalog, the one AI assistants pull Shopify products from, whether this product is in it. Then it reads the listing itself and judges it with the same checks and the same AI model that Octolift uses inside a store, so the number here and the number in the app come from the same place.

You see one number. The breakdown, where the points are lost and what to change, is in Octolift, because that part is specific to each product and is where the work actually is. Nothing is written to the store you grade, and the same product is graded once a day, so asking again returns the same result until then.

Why is my Shopify product not showing up in ChatGPT?

The most common reason is that the product is not in Shopify's catalog yet. Assistants that shop through Shopify choose from that catalog, so a product outside it cannot be recommended however good the listing is. Shopify decides which stores and products the catalog takes and reviews that over time. The usual causes:

  • The product is new. Recently added products often take a while to appear.
  • The store is new or has little sales history yet.
  • The storefront is password protected, which keeps every product out.
  • The product is a draft, has no image or no price above zero, or is not published to the online store.
  • It is not sold in the country the assistant is shopping for.

When the product is in the catalog and still is not recommended, the listing is usually the problem: the assistant cannot tell clearly enough what the product is, who it is for or why it is the better pick. That is what the rest of the score measures. For the wider picture, read how to get your products recommended by AI.

How do AI assistants choose which products to recommend?

An assistant turns a shopper's question into a search over product data, then reads the candidates and picks the ones it can justify. It favours products whose listings state plainly what they are and give concrete facts it can repeat to the shopper. Vague copy, missing details and listings that look like every other one in the category give it nothing to say, so it moves on.

This is why a strong brand can still be skipped. The assistant is not judging the brand, it is judging the information it can read in that moment. What is a good AI visibility score?

ScoreWhat it means
80 to 100In good shape. An assistant can find the product and has enough to recommend it.
50 to 79An assistant can work with it, but the product is losing points that matter when it chooses between similar products.
0 to 49An assistant will struggle to recommend it as it stands, often because it cannot reach the product at all.

Grade your best seller first. Listings in one store tend to be written the same way, so the gaps you find on one product are usually on the rest of the catalog too.

How to raise your AI visibility score

The fixes differ per product, which is why the grader keeps them for the full report. A few things help almost every listing:

  1. Make sure the product can be in Shopify's catalog at all: active, published to the online store, with an image and a price.
  2. Write the description for the shopper's question, not for a keyword. Say who the product is for and give the facts you would want quoted.
  3. Give the product a title that names what it is, not only the product line.
  4. Set the right Shopify product category and describe every image in its alt text. Our alt text generator helps with the second part.

Then check the store level signals as well: the AI readiness checker looks at llms.txt, robots.txt and structured data, the JSON-LD schema generator builds product markup, and the product page grader covers the classic on page basics. To see which AI assistants already send you visitors, follow how to track AI search traffic in GA4.

Octolift does the product level part for you: it shows where every point is lost and drafts a better title, description and category fields, and nothing changes on your store until you approve it.

AI visibility grader questions

Is this the same score Octolift shows?

It is built from the same checks, the same AI model and the same weights Octolift uses, measured on the product's public data.

Why is my product not in the Shopify catalog?

Shopify decides which stores and products its catalog takes and reviews that over time. New products, new stores, password protected storefronts and products not sold in the country checked are the usual reasons.

Does a high Google ranking mean a high AI visibility score?

No. Google ranks pages, while an AI assistant picks products from product data. A page can rank well and still be hard for an assistant to recommend.

Can I grade a competitor's product?

Yes. The grader reads only what any visitor to the store can see, so it works on any public Shopify store.

Why do I only see the score?

The score tells you how far a product is from being recommended. The breakdown and the fixes are in Octolift, which shows where every point is lost and drafts the changes for you.

Does grading change anything on the store?

No. The grader only reads public data. It writes nothing to the store and needs no login.

How often can I grade a product?

A few products an hour. The same product is graded once a day, so asking again returns the same result until then.
