What’s new in CS – Smart Bulk Image Upload. Updates roll out automatically. There is nothing to install or re-authorise, and your settings, connections and past jobs carry over untouched.

Matching is dramatically faster on large catalogs. The app now loads your full product catalog in a single bulk operation instead of paging through it, which also clears the “Something went wrong” timeout that could hit stores with very large catalogs.

Long uploads are no longer interrupted by an expiring session. The app refreshes its Shopify access mid-job, so a multi-hour batch runs to the end on its own.

Large uploads now ride out Shopify’s file rate limits instead of failing. When Shopify throttles how fast files can change in a store, the app backs off and retries the image automatically.

Moved to the current Shopify Admin API version, keeping the app on a fully supported and non-deprecated API surface.
Faster uploads and jobs that pick up where they left off

A rebuilt upload pipeline that downloads the next images while the current ones are still uploading, measurably shortening large jobs.

Progress is now durable per image: if a worker restarts mid-job, the job resumes exactly where it stopped and never re-uploads an image that already succeeded.

Shared-file deduplication. When the same image file belongs to many products, it is uploaded once and reused instead of duplicated in your Files. Available on request.

Each finished job now reports a timing breakdown in its log, so a slow batch can be explained rather than guessed at.

Catalog caching makes a repeat match much faster, which helps while you are still dialling in your file-naming convention.

Detailed matching diagnostics for support: we can now record a full trace of a matching run for your store and tell you exactly why a given image matched what it did.
Cleaner alt text

Alt text can be trimmed before it is written to Shopify, for example dropping everything up to the last
/, so path-like values in a metafield don’t end up in your SEO text.
Keep replaced images instead of deleting them
- New
Don’t delete replaced images from “Files”: in replace mode the old images are detached from the product but kept under Content → Files. Safer for a first test, and necessary when the same file is used by more than one product.
Matching for catalogs that share identifiers
- New
Multi-product and multi-variant matching: where several products or variants legitimately share the same SKU, barcode or title, they can all receive the image instead of only the first one. Available on request.
Narrow a run to one collection
- New
Matching can be limited to a chosen collection, which keeps a run focused and much faster on large catalogs. Available on request.
More control over identifiers and alt text

A wider set of per-store matching and alt-text rules, so an unusual naming convention can be handled by configuration rather than by renaming thousands of files.

Replace mode made predictable

In replace mode a product’s existing images are cleared exactly once per job, immediately before its first new image, so a product receiving several images no longer has its gallery cleared again part-way through.

Faster repeat matching

Your catalog is cached between matching runs, with a Clear cache button on the preview page for when you have just edited products in Shopify.
Billing you can see

Plan periods are tracked properly: after a downgrade the paid plan stays active until the end of the period you already paid for, and the app shows you that date.
Identifier clean-up rules

Your store’s identifiers can be trimmed before they are compared, for example dropping the last few characters of a SKU or everything after the first dash, so image names that follow a parent code still match. Available on request.
One image, several variants
- New
The same image can be attached to several variants of a product, for catalogs where one photo genuinely represents more than one variant. Available on request.
Match on a metafield
- New
Matching by product or variant metafield. Point the app at a
namespace.keyin Settings and name your files after that value. Ideal when your image codes come from an ERP or supplier system and don’t line up with your SKUs.
Product-level uploads
- New
Don’t attach images to variants: upload everything to the product’s gallery and leave variant images alone, for stores that keep one shared set of photos per product.
Dropbox support
- New
Dropbox joins Google Drive as an image source. Connect either one in Settings and pick a folder the same way.

Each job records whether it ran in replace mode, so the log tells you exactly what a past run did to your galleries.
Smart Bulk Image Upload launches

Bulk image upload from a Google Drive folder, matching each file to a product or variant by SKU or barcode: exact, or “contains”, in either direction.

A full preview before anything is written to your store, listing every match and every image that matched nothing.

Image ordering from the file name (
SKU_0,SKU_1,SKU_2…), with the first image set as the variant’s image. - New
